Allotment Play Area scoops award

A recently installed Miracle playground at a local allotment in Northampton has become a huge success and has received an accolade at a recent award ceremony. The revolutionary project, the first at an allotment in Northampton, was designed to encourage an interest in gardening and the environment from a young age and has seen a huge increase in young people using the facility.

Some of the most deserving groups in Northamptonshire were recognised by a charity foundation for the good work they do in the community. The winners of the Northamptonshire Community Foundation Annual Awards were revealed at a ceremony at the Northampton School for Boys. The presentation evening marked the charity’s 10th birthday and since their launch they have distributed £5 million to more than 2,000 organisations.

The St David’s Allotment Association, in St David’s, Northampton, received the Strengthening Community award at the ceremony. The allotment features an orchard and a play and sports area, which was created by the group following a grant from the foundation.

Miracle Design and Play were selected to come up with an area suitable for children from 2-12 years on a tight budget. Working with the Allotment group Miracle came up with a robust and innovative design that catered for all ages and abilities and allowed the tight budget to be stretched to give the users exactly what they were looking for.

More than 70 young people regularly visit the allotment play area and it has become a real focal point for the allotment users.

An exciting new play area in East Haddon, Northants

Village youngsters were disappointed when their old wooden fort play area was banned on health and safety grounds during 2008. As a result, the fort was pulled down in November 2008. A group of village volunteers started the “Play East Haddon Project” and after much hard work, together with the assistance of Miracle Design and Play Limited, their new exciting play area was recently opened to replace the old wooden fort.

The village volunteers worked extremely hard to secure funding from Daventry District Council by way of capital grant funding and from the Government’s Playbuilder Scheme. The final project value was £63,000.

Miracle Design and Play Limited have since been awarded two other Playbuilder Schemes within the county. They are currently completing a play area on the playing fields in the village of Harpole with a Grand Opening in December. In addition, Miracle will be undertaking an installation at the prestigious destination of the Racecourse, Northampton which will be ready for use in March 2010.

The opening of the refurbished South Street play are in Ellistown, took place on the 17th April. The project aimed to completely transform the run-down and tired play area into a fun, safe and natural environment, which attracted young children. The £90,000 project was funded through the Governments Playbuilder scheme, the Sence Valley Environmental Improvement Forum and Ellistown and Battleflat Parish Council and saw local children given the opportunity to work with the parish council and North West Leicestershire District Council to choose the equipment and design of the new play space.
